Paphos International Airport (PFO) Information: History and Facilities
Opened in 1983 to ease the air-traffic congestion and actively encourage tourism in Cyprus, Paphos International Airport was born and built on the coastline, next to the suburb of Mandria. It was not long until Paphos Airport was struggling to cope with high volumes and so in 1988, the runways were extended, new terminals constructed, and taxiways improved.
Further updates have been made since, the most significant of which commenced in 2006 as part of a joint improvement plan with both Paphos Airport and Larnaca Airport, costing over an estimated 600 million and improving overall capacity and general facilities. Those requiring refreshments will find a coffee shop, restaurant and bar available within Paphos Airport, along with several good shops and an outlet for duty-free shoppers.
